A public conversation. Genocidal regimes in Israel, in the United Kingdom and elsewhere are employing abduction and detention without trial in open and shameless defiance of human rights. In multiple, extreme cases there are mass arrests, with vicious torture, and detainees are effectively ‘disappeared’. There has been evidence from returned remains of Palestinian detainees of body parts having been removed. At this event we will use testimonies both of former detainees as well as loved ones and family members to talk about the impacts of these practices. Both here and there, at different levels of intensity, these genocidal states use the carceral system to reduce resistance to submission. Our event is aimed at disabling these strategies by fostering knowledge and action. How can we enhance solidarity and resistance? Does artistic and/or cultural practice have a part to play? Join us.
